Nyamira County Provides Free Medical Insurance To Vulnerable Families

The County Government of Nyamira has started a health insurance registration exercise which will benefit more than 15,000 residents who cannot afford medical cover. The exercise which will be taking place at Nyamaiya Health Centre in Nyamaiya Ward is a joined partnership between the County Government and National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to prioritize health services and provide medical covers for vulnerable families in the County.

The targeted needy families from different sub-counties in Nyamira will get free health cover from the County Government after submitting the details for registration to the selected centers. This strategy to ensure that all households have a medical cover will also lower the poverty rate and encourage older people to get frequent check ups for most illness connected to old age. Free medical services provided by the medical cover is also expected to ensure that both expectant mothers and newborns get the needed services during, before and after birth. Residents from other households who can afford their personal health cover will not be able to register for this free insurance however, the County in an effort to fight poverty and improve health quality has encouraged them to acquire cheaper medical insurance.
