Kisumu County Establishes A Trading Bazaar To Help Local Business Owners And Traders Sell Their Products In A Common Place During The Africities Conference To Boost Their Visibility And Sales

The County Government of Kisumu has established a trading bazaar for traders and locals to showcase their products during the 9th Africities Summit to be held on 17–21 May 2022 at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground in Kisumu. The trading bazaar will be an open space where the local business owners and traders will display their homemade products, lake region culture and commodities from other African countries.

This strategy is aimed at boosting local manufacturers and sharing their culture with the diverse visitors who will be attending the Summit. Though the traders will pay for the spaces, they are expected to make high profits from selling their products to visitors. The trading bazaar strategy is borrowed from the Republic of Singapore which has succeeded in exposing the true identity of Singapore City to visitors, hence the desire of the County Government of Kisumu to replicate the same in Kisumu. The bazaars at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground are expected to minimize hawking and organize trading during the Conference. The County will continue deploying this strategy even after the Summit.
