Residents of Mumias Sub- County will benefit from the wastewater treatment facility in Mumias town, which will reduce river pollution and improve sanitation and wastewater management. The County Government of Kakamega's KSh 17.2 million water treatment facility is aimed at providing an alternative to sewerage systems, which are more expensive to construct. The wastewater treatment facility will help over 2,000 residents in Mumias who have suffered environmental pollution. For years, the residents have been disposing of the waste in the local rivers, hence contaminating water and the environment with the toxic waste.
With polluted water bodies, the residents have to walk for long distances to reach clean water for domestic use. Through this treatment facility project, the wastewater will be collected at one source, treated and managed hence avoiding the health threat caused by contaminated water.
What is your County doing to improve urban sanitation?
