The County Government of Laikipia is supporting local manufacturers by paying back 30 per cent of the total cost of energy used in producing their products. This initiative is under the Laikipia Innovation and Enterprise Development Programme which is supporting over 1600 local businesses in the manufacturing industry. High electricity price in the country has killed many inventions that depend on high power intake to produce and manufacture goods, this is the reason the County has called for mass applications for those in the manufacturing industries to submit their details for support.
The initiative has also supported manufacturers by paying business permits and license fees for those who cannot afford the required fees, hence creating job opportunities for over 20,200 youths in the County. Helping in paying the extra manufacturing power cost has encouraged residents to establish businesses and reduced the unemployment rates.
The County is, however, requesting proof of a valid business permit, business registration certificate and receipts as evidence of expenses incurred during the manufacturing process from the applicants. Local manufacturers will also have to prove that they are from Laikipia and hold an introduction letter by Laikipia Business Development Office.
