Lamu County Transforms Healthcare

Lamu County has achieved a historic milestone in healthcare with the launch of its first Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a modern CT scanner, an in-house oxygen plant, private wards at Lamu County Referral Hospital, and the County’s inaugural Eye Unit at Mokowe Sub-County Hospital.

These upgrades, launched by Governor H.E. Issa Timamy and Health CS Hon. Aden Duale, ensure critically ill patients receive life-saving care locally, improve diagnostic services, and provide a sustainable oxygen supply. The Eye Unit brings specialized eye care closer to residents, offering consultations, surgeries, preventive care, and affordable vision aids through a partnership with the Kenya Society for the Blind.

The investments reduce travel for treatment, lower medical costs for families and strengthen public confidence, marking a transformative step in Lamu’s healthcare journey.
