The Nairobi Summit on ICPD25 will be held in November, marking 25 years since the inaugural conference held in Cairo, Egypt in 1994. The conference will bring together thousands of participants from 170 nations, to assess the gains made towards the resolutions made since.
The Summit, convened by the governments of Kenya and Denmark with UNFPA, will assess developments and advances on three key transformative results - zero maternal deaths, zero unmet need for family planning, and zero gender-based violence and harmful practices, and what remains to be done towards their achievement by 2030.
The Council of Governors will hold a concurrent session with the theme: ‘Accelerating the ICPD Promise through Devolution’. The session, will highlight the experiences of county governments in Kenya in driving program and policies towards attaining the three zeros, and the implications with regard to political and financial commitments.
