South Eastern Kenya University Produces Kebs Approved Personal Protective Equipment To Alleviate Shortage In Fight Against Covid 19
Believing that Universities exist to solve problems facing the society, the South-Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) took the initiative to manufacture hand sanitizers and face masks to help alleviate the shortage in the country, using internal capacity and locally-sourced materials.
The University got KEBS certification for the hand sanitizer, to be produced under the brand name, SEKU HAND SANITIZER, with an estimated 120,000 people projected to benefit from using the sanitizer per year. The three-layer face masks are awaiting KEBS approval.
Mass production is set to begin in June 2020. SEKU will seek to partner with the County Governments in the distribution of sanitizers and face masks to hospitals and vulnerable members of the community. Others will be availed in the market for uptake by the general population.
